First of all, I received my 32 bottle stainless wine cooler for underneath my counter in my kitchen and I love it. It fits perfectly in my trash compactor space and matches all of my appliances. I like the fact that the top is warmer than the bottom approximately 5 degrees so I can store my reds on top. I found this out through customer service at Vinotemp, they were very helpful.

Similar Problem with 18-bottle Haier Cooler - W. Thompson - Los Angeles, CA
As soon as I first plugged in the cooler there was a strong smell similar to an overheated circuit board but the cooler worked normally - for about a month. Then the top zone stopped cooling and its outside fan ran continuously. Other reviews suggested a failed TEC module, so I bought a US made replacement with the same dimensions but a higher wattage rating. When I removed the old TEC module and tested it, sure enough it wasn't working. When I put in the new module and reassembled the upper cooling unit the problem was fixed. For better thermal transfer I used a high quality silver thermal paste between the TEC module and heat sinks - expensive but may improve the efficiency a little and save electricity. The whole operation wasn't particularly difficult and I preferred doing it myself instead of dealing with customer service. Otherwise the cooler looks well designed and built and is attractive. Hopefully Haier will address the TEC unit failure problem and have happier customers.

I bought this item 7/08. By 12/08, the top section stopped cooling. I called Haier and was told I would get a refund and they would pick up the unit. After calling weekly they finally picked up the unit 3/5/09. I continued to call them weekly and finally received a refund 6/09, 6 months after I reported the defect. Then they don't reimburse the taxes paid so I still am out . Not a good customer service company at all, I would not recommend them or this product.

I have now had a Whisperkool for 3 years. it has worked flawlessly, other than a few drips which could be due to a) I don't have the drip tube installed and b) I don't have a professional, totally moisture shielded room.br /br /In anywhere around the price range, this is the one to buy. I know many other people with them - similar experience. and a friend who has a professional wine cellar business says Whisperkool is the best to buy for an in-wall install. You can do better with a split system, but many of us don't have that option or budget.

Vinoteque recently shipped me my 3rd WhisperKool unit, and it is awesome - as ALL the others have been to now. My cellar has grown every few years necessitating a larger cooling unit, and these innovative cooling units made here in California have always stood the tests of our extreme summer heat. I've had one small problem over the past 15 years, and their service staff were out the next day and did not leave until it was satisfactorily repaired. I purchased it through [...] under Koolatron WC-18 name in Dec 2009. It appears to be exactly the same model that is shown on this Amazon.com image. I really liked cabinet design and ease of controls. Unit was fairly quiet - just slight whisper noise of cooling fans.br /br /Unit's upper zone stopped working two month after purchase - fan was running, but there was no cooling function. It looked like the top thermo-elements have been defective. After reading warranty info ( I should had done it prior to purchase - no excuses.) I found that Koolatron is only providing 90 days protection and does not refund shipping charges to Canada or another US location (approx for UPS). I was told that if it fails again I would have to ship at my expense again (no refund even if they find that product was defective) and warranty would not be extended. I found that no local warranty repair service is available anywhere else in the country. Customer rep. would not let me to discuss my options with her manager and simply hang up on me after I started complaining. br /br /I got very lucky that our local Sears store kindly agreed to take this unit back at full refund (including shipping)under their 90 days return policy! br /

Worthless Piece of Junk - Stacey Moore - Los Angeles, CA
The first unit I ordered was defective; the door hinge was bent and the doors did not seal. I decided to give it another chance and requested a replacement. The second unit was defective as well; the screw holes to attach the door handle were misaligned and the handle would not attach properly. I think it is safe to assume at this point that there are serious quality control issues with this brand. This time I requested a refund. If the rating system allowed me to give it zero stars I would.
